The City of Monschau is THE number one tourist destination in the Eifel.
Thereby the historical Old town of Monschau with countless cultural impressions, whether museums like the Red House (House of a cloth manufacturer), art and culture center Monschau in the former tax office of the city of Monschau, the historical mustard mill in Monschau or the printing museum in Imgenbroich or the historical castle (here the event “Monschau-Klassik ” takes place annually in midsummer) with the castle ruin “Haller” opposite. The castle itself is within walking distance, but can also be reached quite comfortably with the Monschau city railway train.
Guided tours of the city and Guided tours through the High Fens can book them directly with us in the house.
Also worth mentioning is the Monschau Christmas Market which is one of the most beautiful historic Christmas markets in all of Germany. Visit the Monschau Christmas Market on one of the four Advent weekends. Note our special offers for the Christmas season.
The High Fens : It is one of the largest nature reserves in all of Germany. The High Fens consist almost entirely of heavily wooded moorland, deep bogs and deciduous forests. Here you will encounter a diverse wildlife with many a rare species. In the High Fens, a large number of signposted forest paths are maintained, some of which run along the wooden footbridges typical of the Fens. The entrance to the High Fens is about 300 m from our house.
The Harvest festival in Mützenich (first weekend in October) as a special attraction in the Monschau region has long been known, now also receives nationwide attention (usually sees Mützenich this weekend about 6000 visitors). The highest elevation of Mützenich is the Stehling (659 meters above sea level). Visit also – in the immediate vicinity – Emperor Karl’s bedstead (according to legend, Emperor Charles spent the night on this large Vennstein).
In the center of Mützenich you will find – near the church – the village museum “Uralt Scholl” (= ancient school), where you can inform yourself about the country life in Mützenich of the generations that lived here before us.
